Large Intestine 11, "Qu Chi"

Large Intestine 11 is a key point for clearing Heat.

Large Intestine 11
Large Intestine 11 (LI 11) is located on the outside end of the crease on the elbow. It’s name Qu Chi, meaning “Pool at the Crook or Bend,” tells us about the location (at the bend of the elbow).
Heat in the body manifests in a variety of ways:

  • Fever
  • Red and sore throat
  • Red rashes such as hives
  • Acute, hot inflammations such as tooth abscess or other type of infection
  • High blood pressure

Heat can manifest in the mind and emotions as:

  • Hyperactivity
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Hot, fiery temper

LI 11 is always included in sessions where we want to let off excess heat. LI 11, like all acupuncture points, is located on both sides of the body.

Locate LI 11

Step 1:

Bend the elbow in order to make the elbow crease prominent. Locate the outer edge of the elbow crease:

LI 11 is on the outside end of the elbow crease.

Step 2:

LI 11 is located at the outside (lateral) tip of the crease. Make sure you are on the outside edge, rather than the inside edge of the crease.

Make sure you are on the outer edge of the elbow in order to contact LI 11.
