March mania cleansing time!

green smoothieWe are on the brink of spring in the northern hemisphere.

Just like the return of the robins, we have the return of the call to cleanse blasting us from every direction.
Spring is traditionally a cleansing time for many cultures, timed with the melting snow, the rushing rivers, the movement of sap in the trees and the waking of energy in our bodies. Now is the time we are supposed to clear out all the gunk, and blast into the rest of the year all fresh and clean.

My tendency to jump into extreme adventures is always triggered by the latest spring cleanse. However, I often wonder about this emphasis on cleansing. What am I trying to chase away, clear out, evacuate, excrete, or cleanse? Why not just chill out on putting crap into my system in the first place?

Vacuum-cleanerSince vacuuming is no fun (just ask the cats), wouldn’t it just be easier to wipe my feet before coming in the door? When I consistently sweep the front entryway, shake out the doormat, and take off my shoes before coming inside, I notice a real reduction in the need to vacuum. Keeping the dirt out of the house is much easier than removing it once it gets in.
It’s the same with cleansing our bodies. You know the drill, stop putting all that junk into your system in the first place. That will alleviate the need for an extreme cleanse every spring.

Need a list of healthy foods?

I think about it this way: potatoes don’t grow with wrappers. Neither does corn or cows or chia seeds. Eating things out of wrappers is like shaking out your doormat inside your house.
If your are going for the cleanse this spring, remember to be nice to yourself during the process. It takes a big effort to cleanse, or to change habits, so be sure to celebrate your efforts! Pour positive energy into your system every day, and leave the negatives outside the threshold of your Spirit.
Wishing you less vacuuming all year long!

I loved this blog…it makes so much sense!!!! We also have livers to help keep the crap out of our bodies…if we treat our bodies right we won’t need to cleanse!!
