Mental focus – you can do it!

mental focusMental focus happens!

As a card carrying member of the busy mind club, I can say that mental focus is possible!
There are many different theories and approaches that promise to improve your focus. There are drugs,  supplements, vitamins, and exercises! With so many choices, how do you find that one technique that will work for you?

The joy of wondering

Wondering is a form of focus.
Here are a couple things to wonder about:

  1. Mental focus is a quality of the mind – where is your mind?
  2. How much does your mind weigh?
  3. What is the shape of your mind?

I like to walk and wonder about these questions.
These questions and the answers they instigate, create the context for my practice of mental focus. I’m always much better after I have some movement. I go for a walk, a bike ride, do some gentle stretching, or weed the garden. I move, I wonder, and then I enjoy a clearer focus.

The Mind and the Metal Element

The 5 Elements of Chinese medicine incorporate all aspects of our body-mind-spirit. The Metal Element corresponds to our ability to quiet our minds. Learning how to quiet and focus the mind brings balance to those of us who experience distraction, lack of focus, and spinning thoughts.

Inch by inch

It has taken me awhile to realize that my challenge with focusing points to the benefits I stand to gain from practicing the mental focus exercises. A little at a time, I make my way, awkwardly along the path to improvement.

I firmly believe that God created us to be able to heal and there is a reason we are to think upon things that are true and right and not worry. The mind is very powerful!

Indeed, the mind is powerful. I do believe that God has given the ability to be transformed by the renewing of the mind, and that the body speaks the mind. Furthermore, I believe there are those who are gifted in a manner to help others achieve that status….
