Relieve back pain using Master Points

woman with back painTwo points for back pain

Small Intestine 3 and Bladder 62 used together are a great addition to any treatment for back pain. Both of these points are “Master Points.” Master Points are acupoints on meridians that regulate, or activate, the 8 Extraordinary Vessels. Let’s take a closer look at each of these points.

Small Intestine 3

Small Intestine 3 (SI 3) is the Master Point of the Du – Governing Vessel.
This Vessel runs from the base of the spine up the entire spine, over the top of the head and ends inside the upper lip.

How to locate Small Intestine 3

SI 3 is located on the outer edge of the hands in a dip just behind the knuckle of the pinky (5th) finger.

Below is a quick video showing you how to locate Small Intestine 3

Bladder 62

Bladder 62 (BL 62) is the Master Point of the Yang Qiao – Heel Vessel.
This Vessel runs from the outer ankle, near the heel, up the outside of the legs, up the side of the body to the side of the head, and then enters the brain.

How to locate Bladder 62

BL 62 is located in a dip just below the outer ankle bone (lateral malleolus).

Bladder 62 is just below the outer ankle (on both feet).

Combine SI 3 and BL 62 to relieve back pain

Make contact with SI 3 and BL 62 on one side of the body.
Keep that contact for at least five complete breath cycles, then move to the other side.
I experience Master Point combinations differently than other point combinations. While holding these points, I often drop into a deep state of mysterious quiet, and my clients often report the same experience.  I encourage you to experiment with this SI 3 and BL 62 combination. Notice your experience, ask for feedback, and most importantly, allow the Qi to guide how long you maintain your contact with the points.

Hey I have just read about trigger point somewhere earlier, back pain seems very common these days among my clients and so does migraines, do you know any master points technique to eliminate those kind of headaches? Thanks in advance!

SI3 combined with BL 62 can be used for pain in the spine and head.
Headaches come in many varieties, even migraines. These points can be part of the treatment, but be sure to evaluate and understand the whole person who is experiencing the migraine in order to offer the most accurate support.

The article is well documented, as always 🙂 My question is: can master points can be used to relieve stress? I mean for people who always feel tired and have low work efficiency due to stress?
    Much appreciated!

      Hi,
Yes, these are great points for restoring, fortifying, and stress relief! The best thing is to use them, experience it for yourself. The Yin combinations:
      SP 4 – P6
      KD 6 – LU 7
are especially great to restore from fatigue.

    Hi Cindy
Thank you for the great information. You refer to two videos being “below” in two places in your blog. However, I can’t see links to these. Thank you.
