Which Way is the Way?

Symbol of Tao“The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.”

This is the famous first line of the Taoist classic, Tao Te Ching.
It can also be translated as:

“The Way that can be named is not the eternal Way,” or “The Path that is well-marked is not the eternal Path.”

“Although the true Way or Path has always existed in eternity and conforms to precise laws, it must always be discovered for oneself…The ‘ordinary’ isolated intellect is not the agent through which the living present moment can be experienced.”
From, Tao Te Ching, translated by Gia-Fu Feng and Jane English

If we only had an ‘owner’s manual’ for the isolated intellect’s off switch…we’d be all set. 🙂
